Target Marketing has been around since the 1980’s and Target Marketing Inc. was formed by Robert Cialdini. This company is a leader in the Direct Marketer Marketing industry and is known for having many super models and top sales people who have become leaders in their field and Target Marketing Incorporated is based out of Beverly Hills California where Target is a retail shop that sells clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, home goods, groceries, health & beauty, toys, etc. Target is one of the most well known companies and they sell all different types of things. They are known for having an awesome assortment of clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, groceries, health & beauty, toys, etc.
So I asked Robert Cialdini the original question, “Why did you create Target, which is different from other Marketing Companies, to begin with?” His answer was quite interesting and gave me a whole new understanding of what made a target different from other stores. When creating target market he felt that we needed to take a more in depth approach to understanding the target market. We also needed to understand that what we were selling was not the same product, or brand, from other companies. We needed to create something unique, that set us apart from our competition. And by different we mean products and brands that we could market towards specific groups of people or demographics.
One example of this is when we created the children’s line of products. Target market for kids was very different than the male target market. Children are very different from adults, so we needed to find a way to get our product in front of the right group of people. We knew that girls like pink things, boys like blue things, and pretty much everything in between. By targeting the right group of people or age group we could bring our product to them and make money on every sale.
Another example of what made target market different from other stores is that we sold our products direct to the consumer. We didn’t go through a middle man. So when someone bought a product from us they saved time, money, and energy because they didn’t have to go see someone, search the web, or call another company to buy the product. They actually bought the product right then and there. This was very different than selling stuff through other companies that required you to do all of these things. It was very convenient and a big step up from the traditional retail model.
Another thing that made target very different from other stores was that we didn’t make promises for returns. If a customer wasn’t satisfied with our product, we didn’t have to offer an exchange or money back guarantee. Because of our unique selling point, we didn’t have to risk losing our customers to another competitor by making promises that we didn’t have to honor.
Target has always been a challenge for most online businesses. Not only have most brick and mortar businesses struggled to find ways to differentiate themselves from each other, they also find that they don’t have much of a direct line into their customers’ minds. Internet marketing and sales are very different and yet very similar to one another. Internet sales and marketing take hard work and dedication and target product development is key.
