In my hometown there is nothing like a beautifully done and sliced Bundt cake on the 4th of July. If you live in that part of the country then you have experienced the true delicacy of this dessert. It was only years ago when my husband and I made our first homemade Bundt cake. Now we have a tradition of baking a special cake every year on this very day, and this year is our fourth. Here is how we have made our traditional Bundt cake.
For this particular Bundt cake we decided to make a glazed one, and since we love glazing we thought this would be a fun experience for us. First we got all of our supplies together. We used two pans to make a rectangle cake and lined it with a piece of thin cardboard to hold it in place. We then gathered up all of our favorite colors and bought some red and white sprinkles so that they would be easier to find once we were ready to bake.
When we were ready to begin preparing our masterpiece we found out that this particular braid cake recipe called for a double sheet cake. This is something that would be difficult to find if you were not already doing something different. So we made sure to get a couple of those around. When we had them ready, we put them aside to cool off while we made our Bundt cake.
Then we took a sheet of browned cardboard and laid it on top of the braid. We then taped the cardboard to the bottom and sides of the pan to keep it in place and it was ready for baking. When we were done, we removed the browned paper from the bottom of the pan and placed it back on the bundt cake pan. That was really easy and fun!
We served our Bundt Sconces and garnished with a small red rose and some lemon slices. Everyone seemed to love it! It was a real eye catcher and it was delicious! Everyone asked for seconds and everyone was happy that we took the time to put together our masterpiece.
Our next party will be in the fall. We have always made a point to celebrate Independence Day in my garden. My husband always comes over on this particular day and we always have a great time. We hope that this year we will be able to open up our braid cakes open on July fourth and celebrate our nation!
