What Happens When You Sign petitions
One of the questions I get most on the Internet is “what happens when you sign a petition?” The idea of putting your signature on a petition is one that comes to mind for many people. Although it does have its own supporters and cheerleaders, there are some who are concerned about the possible outcome of such an action. Some even think that it may make things worse. Is this how the U.S. House will fix the health care reform bill that they are voting on?
The simple answer to the question posed in the title is “nothing”. Nothing can happen when you sign a petition. It does not change anything in the structure of how the government does business or in how the House of Representatives and Senate plan to work together on a plan to improve the economy. You can add your name to the list of those willing to testify on a matter, but nothing else can happen. For that reason alone, signing a petition is not likely to affect the outcome of anything.
However, there could be a very interesting outcome if someone who opposes the legislation to reform health care is successful in getting their way. That would be something like a new argument for why the process was originally set up. It could be something like the House and Senate were trying to move along a politically expedited timeline with little regard for the impact on ordinary Americans. If that is the case, it is highly likely that we will once again see something called a congressional hearings. It is quite possible that we may once again see what happens when you sign a petition.
There is nothing that you can do to avoid what happens when you sign a petition. The only defense is to wait until after the hearings are over and then make your own comments. After all, there is nothing that can be gained by submitting a petition after the hearings have concluded. If you submit a petition after all, that is the only way that it will get done. Even though there might be some opposition to the legislation, there will always be enough support for it to pass.
What happens when you sign a petition is something that almost every citizen has had to deal with at some point in his or her life. It is inevitable and it is nothing that can be avoided. The best that anyone can do is to submit a petition, be registered and vote. If nothing else, at least it won’t be something that they have to go back out and do again.
What happens when you sign a petition is nothing that you should worry about at all. It is just a way for you to make your voice heard. As citizens, everyone has the right to their freedom and the right to participate in elections. The voting process is important and it helps ensure that the laws of the country are followed but when it comes to participating in an election, the petition should be submitted willingly and not involuntarily.
