“What Happened to Colin Stuart?” is the third in the Colin Stuart Mystery Files. The first part “The Lure”. Now, in the second part of the series, Colin is called on to find out what really happened to his best friend, and get some answers. If you are a member of the mystery website, you will have already seen part 1, and if not, this book is worth reading.
In “What Happened to Colin Stuart” there is new evidence that Colin’s wife and daughter have had an affair. This is the second part of the investigation. Colin and Jane end up on the run after their daughter finds the body of her late husband in their garden. They are forced to retreat to their cabin in the woods, and are separated for the remainder of the night. A storm then comes up and destroys the car, and Colin and Jane are stranded.
When they come back to the site of the wrecked car, Colin finds a message on the windshield that says, “Jane and Colin are in trouble. Help is on its way.” Now, he knows that his wife and daughter have been having an affair, and he must go and help them, whatever it takes. It turns out that the car crash was caused by Susan Stamberg, Colin’s former teacher, who wanted to frame her friend for a murder she committed ten years ago.
Colin goes to Susan’s cabin and finds out that she had been there the whole time, and that she planned to kill them both. He gets the evidence he needs from her and goes to Jane’s cabin with her to help her out. But when Colin arrives there, he sees that the bodies had been burned so thoroughly that the bodies have been buried.
What Happened to Colin Stuart? is based around forty years back, when Colin’s wife and daughter were having an affair. Susan had planned to frame her friend for a murder that she herself had committed, but then decided to turn herself in instead. Colin stumbles upon her body in the woods and is convinced that Susan staged the whole scene to get found. The two desperately need each other at this time and have to work against each other in order to help the other.
A gripping and fast-paced story, What Happened to Colin Stuart is entertaining throughout, especially the last third or so. It becomes more intense as the relationship between Susan and Colin grows and they begin to really like each other. Colin and Jane are also very much in love with one another, which makes the movie one of the best ever romantic movies. Colin Stuart: What Happened To Colin Stuart is available on DVD now.
