The 4th of July is the traditional time for a rifle competition. This is the only time where the best hunters and shooters from all around the country are gathered and the competition really takes on a new meaning. There is a lot more responsibility this year for the hunter who wants to win big. This competition will also serve as a teach a man what it takes to be a professional rifleman. The rules and regulations for the competition are not as stringent this year compared to past years.
This can be one of the only times that you get to go out into the woods and test your skills with real fire power. When you are going into the competition, make sure that you bring all of your hunting equipment with you. This is important so that you are prepared for the types of shots that the other competitors will be using. There is a lot of practice that goes into a rifle competition so bring anything that you can use to help you prepare. You do not want to show up to the Longhorn Open Range with nothing prepared to shoot at.
The rules for the competition vary slightly from previous years, but still allow for a good amount of safety. Before the competition, the contestants will have a chance to sharpen their skills. At the end of the day, the top three hunters will earn the trophy and the rest will take home recognition in the form of prizes. There are a few different ways that you can qualify for the competition. There is the standard, basic and expert course that each hunter must complete in order to qualify.
There are some basic rules that every participant is required to follow. The first is that there is to be no drinking or eating during the competition. If the shooter is unable to shoot any targets after the first three, they will be required to shoot another group of three. For each group a score is required to be achieved before moving to the next group until the ten targets are shot in a set period of time.
After all the groups are shot, the shooter with the most points wins the trophy. The trophy itself is made out of cedar and is a beautiful piece of art. This is a long competition though and it is best to be entered in if you are not sure about entering into the Longhorn Open. The trophy is a necessity for any hunter entering into the competition and it is a long event. The best time to enter the competition is in the morning or afternoon on the weekend.
