When: The Fourth of July is a special holiday for American Indians, and many people are looking forward to seeing fireworks in Independence Day celebrations. If you’re among these people, make sure you know where you’re going, how long you’ll be gone, and what you’ll be doing on that day. If you aren’t an American Indian, you probably won’t have a problem; most of America’s native tribes have their own traditions about celebrating fireworks. But if you happen to be an American Indian from the United States, you might find that there are some particular circumstances in which you could be in danger of suffering from fireworks-related injuries.
What: Many towns around the United States hold large Fourth of July parades. These parades are great places for you to see fireworks, especially when it’s just after sunset. However, if you want to avoid the risk of being injured by fireworks, you’ll have to arrive early. If you happen to be out in town on a special holiday when fireworks are common, you’ll likely find that most cities have their own ordinances about firing off your fireworks. You’ll probably have to follow those laws or face arrest.
Where: Most cities have laws about when and where you can let off your fireworks. For example, in Philadelphia, you can’t let them off on the sidewalks or anywhere near any roads or homes. You also may not have them go over your fence (of course, this is only if you have an open box). In New York City, it’s illegal to let off fireworks around hospitals. In Florida, open flames are banned everywhere, but a container and a sparkler are allowed if fireworks are being used for competitions or church celebrations. So if you want to take them to any of these places, be sure to get an authorized fireworks vendor and keep them out of the way of people who are using them.
What: When can you fire off your fireworks? That depends a lot on where you live. If you live in a rural area with a small populated area, chances are you can get away with a day or two off of fireworks. It will depend on how close you live to a city, though. If you live in a busy city, you’ll have to get permission in advance to open your box, so make sure you do that as soon as you know you’re going to be open for fireworks.
Who: It’s fun to go along to watch fireworks at a friend’s home on 4th of July. But what if you don’t have someone available to show you? If you can’t go with your friends, you can buy fireworks online. There are a few different types you can choose from, including traditional fountains, sparklers, streamers, and many others. Fireworks come in many different shapes, colors, and designs, so you’ll likely be able to find something that catches your eye and is perfect for you and your friends.
When: If you want to open it on the 4th of July, it’s best to do it about a week before. You’ll be able to find most fireworks displays before Independence Day (a good day to buy them). If you wait until after, you might miss out on some of the best shows around. Find out when the nearest location is for more information.
