The opening night of Disney’s New York Theatre on July 4th is called “The Day That The Life Of Others Was Changed.” The musical numbers are a riot, as the show is both fun and sentimental. With the return of the original cast, along with some new faces, there is something for everyone here. So let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
A lot of people are familiar with the patriotic songs, “Land of Hope and Glory,” performed by the German band Der Ringen. But you don’t have to be German to appreciate the words and music of “To Give Love to the Nation.” It was written by a man born in Germany but modified for a more English audience. The words are lovely, and the music is just great.
An all time favorite is Henry Stafford. Who doesn’t know about Henry Stafford? This is actually part of the original cast of Disney’s Cinderella. And it has never lost its popularity. Some of the words are too cute to pass up.
Many children love the Nutcracker. I especially like this one because I was actually there when it was being presented. It is very funny, with the girl in the red hat and groom in the white hat. It is also a spectacular rendition of the musical, and every child should experience it at least once.
If you want a different kind of patriotic show, look no further than the German-American Theater. During World War II, the German language was spoken over the radio by Americans. During this time, the Germans spoke to America just like they would talk to today. You can learn German language and oral history through this program.
Finally, for those who feel strongly American, why not consider watching some patriotic music and movies? You can find many of them at the movies. One of my favorites is We Are the Champions. This is a wonderful musical, which ends with an amazing message.
At the end of the day, whether you choose fireworks or live bands, food will be the center of attention. But how much food you consume will depend upon your budget. Most families who host a fireworks display decide to have a buffet spread. This allows everyone to share in the festivities without anyone feeling left out.
A nice touch is to offer some free beverages to your guests. The local restaurants are sure to have plenty of beverages to offer. But if you really want to save money, you can always order beer for everyone and offer them as a treat during the day. What a great way to celebrate America!
One thing is certain. On July 4th, you will see a huge gathering of people celebrating this day. You may even get into the act yourself and catch the very first fireworks display of the day. The patriotic spirit in this town is really strong, so you’re sure to enjoy yourself on this day as much as everyone else.
